- Good for Critical Thinking
Cons: - Grading is hard

Professor Wilson is interesting, to say the least. His grading is difficult, and he can seem belittling at times. I have learned a lot, though, and that has made it worth it.

Pros: He's very thorough
Cons: He's kind of annoying as a person, and I find it hard to listen to him because he assumes so little of his students, and thus is really rude.
He's a pretty good teacher, and grades slightly above average for a 1000 course. His assignments are mostly interesting, with about one boring one thrown in, and a lot of easy work. I'd suggest going with another teacher though.

Pros: One of the funniest guys i've ever met and always makes class entertaining.
Cons: The class however is very difficult. Grades very strictly and the only grades mainly include your three papers.
You'll need to put in plenty of time out of class to get a good grade on your papers. Office hours are recommended.

Pros: A very effective teacher. Knows what he's talking about, and will ensure you do well if you work at it.
Cons: He is harsh, and he does not like sub par or sub standard work. Admittedly disagreeable personality sometimes. He definitely thinks and talks on a level not suited for an English 1000 class.
I think the reviews for Prof. Wilson are written by people who had hoped that merely sitting in a freshman class will grant you a free A+, regardless of the work you put forth.
I was in his Spring 2010 Expo. and Argument class. It was a very, very difficult class, and I enjoy English. And I will admit, he didn't really go out of his way to make people who didn't enjoy English or writing, suddenly enjoy English.
That said, the peer reviews we did in his class were atrocious. People complained how difficult the class was, how hard he graded - but to be fair, I wonder if the standard of education people were getting going into this class (i.e. in high school) are what lead them to such horrible grades. The writing ability in his Spring 2010 class was horrific; every paper I reviewed showed a lack of effort, and then people complained when he graded harshly. The papers were difficult, and his interpretations were very narrow, yes - but the papers were do-able. They were not impossible.
Remember this about college, about life: You get out what you put in. I got a D on Mr. Wilson's first paper. After that, I was in his office, every week, between working my job and doing my other homework, working on my subsequent papers with him. I got an A+ in the class, and he offered me rec letters on multiple occasions. This class taught me how to write a proper, scholarly college paper. I have since transferred schools, and when my professors comment on how concise and well presented my information and evidence in my papers is, I ALWAYS reference this class as the class that turned my writing around. I wasn't a bad writer, but I am now a much, much better writer. If all you got out of this class was, "it was hard; he was an asshole," that's unfortunate, and hopefully in the year since that last review was written, life hasn't kicked most of you to the curb for being to passive with your education.
Overall - best class I've ever taken. Showed me how to put effort into my grades, and the pay off was well worth the hard work.

Pros: Not much homework, no final
Cons: 1 Research Based Paper
He was a terrible teacher and did not explain things well at all. He graded impossibly difficult, making it hard to do well. I suggest taking full advantage of the writing lab in order to do well in this class.

Pros: He is smart guy. He went to Yale, as he told us several times
Cons: Very abrasive personality and grading is very harsh. You can forget about getting an A in the class. He makes little to no effort to help you improve you papers and never utilizes a visual element for the class or blackboard

Pros: I sat here for 5 minutes thinking of a list of pros for this teacher, and here they are:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5. There aren't any. GET A DIFFERENT TEACHER
Cons: In short, he's just an asshole. He'll belittle you for giving a wrong answer--on multiple occasions he has asked people questions "just to disappoint myself." Talks about politics often. Seems to get amusement out of being a jerk. Barely utilizes Blackboard, and what is due on what day is never exactly clear. Has told us on multiple occasions that he rarely checks his email so don't bother sending any. "I have children and other responsibilities" --as if other professors don't.
He's just an unfriendly person who acts like everyone other than him is an idiot. AVOID.
